Stones are a universal motif that appears throughout myths all over the world. Stones that are related to eternal lives hold various symbolic values, however in East Asia, where they are closely related to the mother Earth, they have also been interpreted in the aspect of reproduction worship. However, there is also one more significant symbolism which stones held, the light or fire, and the heavenly gods. The ancient Qian羌people who are known to have migrated and settled at what is now the Yunnan Province雲南省from the northwestern regions of China via a path called the Tibetan-Yi Corridor藏?走廊, commonly had a tendency for a cause to regard highly of the colour black and a ritual to worship whiteness or light. The conflicting concept of black and white was a crucial mythical motif that could also be found amongst nomadic tribes of the Eurasian plateaus. The emphasis on the colour black that the descents of the Qiang people, in particular the Yi people?族and Naxi people納西族, Pumi people普米族, Lahu people拉祜族, Hani people哈尼族plus etc. indicates that their cultural context has been stretched even from West Asia. (Refer to the relevance of Yi people’s black stones and Mekka Kabba’s black stones). Even so, they still had worship ritual for light or fire as a basis. The Yi peoples’ Torch Festival火把節or the Fire Festival火祭is a clear example of this, and the Tibets, Qiang, Naxi, Pumi Peoples’ noticeable beliefs in white stones lucidly demonstrates this. For them, white stones are a powerful symbolism of light and fire, and also an incarnation of the heavenly gods. Despite the fact that stones are closely related to reproduction worship due to their relevance to goddesses, we cannot overlook the fact that, on the other hand, they are a symbolism of light which represents the powerful heavenly gods.
