Adult Christians are different from children and youth group because they are more self-directed learners and not familiar with formal or nonformal education formation such as college or Sunday school. In this study, therefore, the author initially argues that adult Christian learners in a local church indeed are more fitted to informal learning setting rather than the formal and informal milieu. To do this, this study identifies the formal, nonformal, and informal education of Christian education and indicates the necessity of informal learning for adult Christian learners. From this basic understanding, the study critically demonstrates the more possible applicability of Community of Faith (COF) to adult Christians as a mode of informal education comparing with nonformal education formation of Sunday school. Lastly, this study explores the Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) as a socio-cultural approach to Christian education, and its potential to provide a better analytical tool to educational activity of adults in COF. Especially, the article proposes a possible example of using CHAT as a viable solution to analyze adult Christians` educational activity within an informal setting, COF.
