This paper argues, with the chronological descriptions, that Francis Asbury`s ministry showed political, economical, and social conflicts between the Great Britain and the United States of America, before and after the Independence War, not just their ecclesiastical difference of interest. By contrast to John Wesley, Asbury had different understandings of the church governance and independence, the political stance, and the slavery issue. In spite of their misunderstandings on several issues, however, Wesley and Asbury had in common with trying to focus on personal and communal piety, circuit rider system, and experience of revival. This paper also suggests three conclusions. Firstly, reconciliation between Wesley and Asbury could be found in the emotional issues, not from the political and economical ones. Secondly, in outdoor preaching and camp meeting, the British Methodists and the Methodist Episcopal Church showed their keen adaption capacity to rising popular culture. Finally, but not the least, Wesley and Asbury gave us the exemplary portraits of pietic and thrifty livings which some Korean church leaders have ignored and lost recently. In this reason, their ministry and conciliatory effort could have the support of their own congregations.
