The critical point of this article is that all the endeavors for recovering the original text of the New Testament will be impossible with modern methodologies of studying the manuscripts. Thus, the studies of manuscript variants will be a new method which replaces the attempt for recovering the original text of the New Testament. For this purpose, this study firstly evaluates the contemporary achievements in the research of the manuscripts of the Revelation. Second, this article reviews new suggestions from a critical perspective. Recently a paradigm-shift was made from Eldon Jay Eppin in the field of textual criticism of the New Testament. In the article he presented at SBL(Society of Biblical Literature) 1998 annual meeting, he argued that modern scholarship failed to recover the original text of the New Testament, suggesting for the multi-dimension of text-form: predecessor text-form, autographic text-form, canonical text-form, and interpretative text-form instead of the original text. This article further suggests that the study of variants will overcome the weakness of modern scholarship in the field of textual criticism and will give several advantages for NT study. First, by employing this perspective NT readers can get the benefit of knowing the interpretation method of church which produced manuscripts. Second, this alternative study can provide varying views for understanding of the New Testament texts. Third, this method nullifies the repeated argumentation between the Majority texts and the so-called Eclecticism.
