This article is to study a theory of truth in the Christian thoughts of Rev. Janggong Kim Jae-joon. In order to reveal the attitude, perspective, and content of his ideas, this paper employs three analytic methodologies: a contrast between the correspondence theory of truth and the coherence theory of truth, a dialogue with the postmodern criticism of the modern logo-centric absolutism, and an adoption of minjung hermeneutics. Jang-gong went against the conservative streams of Korean Christian theologies in many ways. First, he criticized the theological dogmatization, which was based on the coherence theory of truth, by rehabilitating the correspondence theory of truth and stressing the correlation of discourses to the historical realities as the place where a truth could be grasped. Second, he avoided both hermeneutic extremities of the modern absolutization of one truth and the postmodern relativization of all truths and created between them a way of moderation with the concept of the "Pan-cosmic community of compassion." Third, his understanding was aware of the theological importance of the suffering creatures as the focal point at which Christian theology can talk about the embodiment of Jesus` vision of the Kingdom of God. This paper discusses the present significance of his idea of truth and requests a listening to his teaching of the Pan-cosmic community of compassion.
