The boundaries among the different areas of modern society become increasingly insignificant, which has been manifested in multi-dimensional and complex trends and exerted influences on architecture. As a consequence, the elements have expanded in their domains through integration and combination, showing more possibilities. With the advancement of technology, building skins have offered a shelter from natural environments, become more functional, and attained independence from the structure. The skins of local cultural centers are the starting points of awareness and perception of the essence and the important objects of consciousness.
Recognizing the problems with the reality of few researches of building skins, this study set out to analyze the winning cases of competitions held by the local cultural centers of Seoul Metropolitan Area for the last five years. The purposes of the study were to set up criteria for architectural planning and design and provide basic data for future local cultural centers.
