The purpose of this study was attempted to identify the effect of perceived health status and physical performance on fall in community-dwelling elderly. The subject of this study were 236 old people(man 94 old people, woman 142 old people) more than 65 years old who inhabits in Seoul area. The tools of this study were Speake, Cowart & Pellet`s Patient Health Questionnaire scale, Kroenke, Spitzer & Williams`s PHQ-15 scale, Guralink`s Chair rise, Standing on one leg, Tandem, & Pick up a penny from floor scale, Mathias, Nayak & Issacs`s Get up and Go test. The participants were also asked about number of fall during the past one year. Measurement tools were checked for reliability and validity. The data from this study were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18(SPSS 18) and Amos 18 Program. Path analysis was used to conduct the data analysis. Results of this study were as following. Perceived health status(γ=-0.069, p=.587) nonsignificant direct effect on the number of fall. But physical performance(γ=0.060, p<.01) and somatization(γ=0.076, p<.01) were associated with the number of fall, directly accounting for 12.8% of the variance in the number of fall. Perceived health status also contributed significantly to somatization(γ=-2.517, p<.001) and physical performance(γ=-0.940, p<.05), accounting for 30.7% of the variance in somatization and 8.6% of the variance in physical performance. 4 hypothesis was supported as direct effect and total effect. Based on the findings of this study, it is useful to more effectively develop fall prevention and intervention programs in the future study.
