This study targeted 264 students majoring in dance at 4 year colleges, to investigate the relation between the goal orientation and the motivations for self-determination and to identify the goal orientation is the variables explaining the motivations for self-determination. In accordance with the purpose of the study, 4 study problems were established. For the test tools used in this study, the "TEOSQ" developed by Duda (1992) and "SRQA" suggested Ryan(2004) was used. As results of the study, first, the task orientation appeared higher than self orientation, and the motivations for self-determination appeared high in the order: identified regulation, intrinsic regulation, introjected regulation and external regulation. Second, the correlation between goal orientation and the motivations for self-determination was identified that both variables had a high correlation in each subfactors. Third, the task orientation was identified as a significant variable explaining 2.3% of introjected regulation and 5.4% of intrinsic regulation. Fourth, for female college students, the task orientation had a negative effect on the introjected regulation and a positive effect on intrinsic regulation. And for male students, task orientation had an effect on introjected regulation, showing the explanatory power of approximately 18.6%.
