The purpose of this study was to discovered the annual variation aspect of body mass index(BMI) in elementary school children and to provided some valuable data of elementary school children`s overweight and obesity for a person who had a plan to make any prevention method of children`s overweight and obesity. The subject of this study were elementary school children(n=576). The height and weight of subject were measured during every April for six years, that is, from first year student to sixth year student in primary school days. BIM was made by use of the result of height-weight measurement. The results were as follows. First, BMI was 15.28±1.69kg/㎡ in first year, 15.53±1.76kg/㎡ in second year, 16.10±1.97kg/㎡ in third year, 16.80±2.28kg/㎡ in fourth year, 17.52±2.67kg/㎡ in fifth year, 18.51±3.04kg/㎡ in sixth year and the BMI level was increased significantly for six year(p<.0001). Second, annual average increment level of BMI in South Korea`s primary school children was 0.65kg/㎡ and it was significant(p<.0001). Third, from the first year to the third year in South Korea`s primary school children, the annual increment level of BMI was under the annual average increment level, but it exceeded the annual average increment level at fourth year in primary school days. From these results, I knew the fact that the weight increment level exceeded the height increment level at fourth year in primary school days. Therefore, I suggest that it is necessary for elementary school children to be more prudent in preventing overweight and obesity at fourth year of primary school days.
