The purpose of this study was to examine relationships between performance strategies and competition anxiety based on their competitive levels among wheelchair tennis players. 43 wheelchair tennis players who participated in the 2013 Korea Open wheelchair tennis tournament in Seoul completed both the Korean version of Test of Performance Strategy (K-TOPS) and the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory Ⅱ (CSAI-Ⅱ). Data were analyzed by a frequency analysis and descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and independent samples t-test through which participants’ demographical characteristics and relations between their performance strategies and competition anxiety based on their performance levels were examined. Results indicated that professional wheelchair tennis players significantly used more self-talk, physical condition adjustment, image and goal setting strategies compared to non-professional wheelchair tennis players. Also, we found that various performance strategies including reducing stress, emotion control, physical condition adjustment, image and goal setting differently influenced on regulating physical and cognitive anxiety and self-confidence according to their performance level. The current study would be meaningful to developing psychological skill training programs to improve physical performance of wheelchair tennis players through examining relationships between performance strategies and competition anxiety based on their competitive levels.
