An apron can be regarded as a product whose functionalities are emphasized such as tidying up or preventing dusts and external contaminations by putting it on top of all clothes. This research aims at providing various apron designs where esthetic appreciation and practicality are considered. Design motives are taken from Korean images that are applied by Gogurye clothing.
In this study, the patterns of upper clothes were adapted to apron designs from Gogurye clothing. As design motives, the pictures of people in the mural of Gogurye ancient tomb were used. In terms of Sang (means a skirt) in Gogurye, the one with pleats and without pleats, both types have been discovered and based on the length and depth, we can guess the level of it"s owner. And the fact that there were no picture for man with Sang (a skirt) tells Sang was women"s clothing not man"s clothing at that time. These types are considered to bring practicality to modern apron design and the images from Gogurye ancient tomb will breathe Korean image.
The result of this study is expected to enhance national dignity and contribute to industry of Korean traditional dress and far more, fashion.
