The plot about the animal husband(groom) is universal. Despite cultural and historical differences between Korea and Russia, they share folktales with similar motives and plots. We can see a clear example of this in both Korean folktale “The Wonderful Serpent Bridegroom” and the Russian folktale “The Feather of Finist the Falcon”(ckazka o Finist yasnom sokole) which belongs to the type ≪Cupid and Psyche≫.
This paper focuses on the marriage between a human and an animal and the search for a lost husband, presented as the kernel of the plot in “Gurungdungdungsinsonbi” and that of “The Feather of Finist the Falcon.” This paper also examines national characters and similar plots and motifs as well as a hierogamy and initiation of the woman in both folktales.
