Realist school of Confucianism has been significantly dealt with in the textbook of Korean history. This study was intended to identify how the realist school of Confucianism was suggested in the 7th curriculum and 2009/2011 course of study and how the suggestion was realized in the textbook of Korean history. As a result, it was confirmed that all the courses of study dealt with the realist school of confucianism as a case of movement pursuing the modern society representing that this suggestion was thoroughly reflected on the compilation for the textbook of Korean history. However, textbooks released by the equivalent courses of study were different in terms of a structure of description and contents. This is the result of reflecting the perspective of author.
However, there were several issues in the structure of description and contents in the textbook of realist school of confucianism. Describing too much content on the limited space of textbook, it only lists the rough facts and specifies the realist school of confucianism as a reformism based on the agriculture and commerce/industry restricting an understanding of realist school of confucianism by students. In addition, too many scholars of the realist school of confucianism were covered in the textbook.
In order to solve such an issue, it is needed to re-examine a scope and degree of the realist school of confucianism covered in the textbook and restrict the number of scholars of realist school of confucianism into one or two that represent the relevant field. In addition, it is also recommended to suggest a case of various activities by representative scholars of realist school of confucianism to support students to analyze the academic propensity and also characteristics of them.
