Qing Dynasty, which emerged as the leader dominating the East Asian in the 17 to 18 century, compiled the modern-concept dictionary that contained semantic interpretation of vernacular language, which was the Manchu language dictionary(1708) created by Han i araha manju gisun i buleku bithe(HMB), the emperor of Qing Dynasty.
This dictionary was published in a very early period as linguistic dictionary that provided semantic interpretation of vernacular language, excluding the Dictionnaire de l"Academie francaise(French Academy Dictionary, 1694) which can be said to be the first full-fledged French-French dictionary. In particular, Manchu language Dictionary(HMB, 1708) incorporated unique principles and format in terms of the system, classification, selection of heading, interpretation of meaning, etc. Although this dictionary adopted non-traditional encyclopedic classification method from the standpoint of macro structure, it has modern dictionary format in terms of polysemy and synonym processing, etc. Specifically, this dictionary emphasized ordinary meaning of words and adopted lexicographical meaning in limitedly metaficated some words.
In addition, this dictionary provides detailed presentation and explanation with a focus on example cases for grammatical functional words such as postposition, endings, dependent noun, auxiliary predicate, etc., which are parts of diverse grammatical morpheme in Manchu language, an agglutinative language, and therefore can be an important reference that has clear linguistic significance.
