Report Errors
The main objective of this paper is to introduce the concept of ‘digital citizenship’ and use it as a means to promote civic participation under representative government system whose main actors are political elites rather than ordinary citizens. To do so, this paper provides three different type of activities, as independent but interconnected, which digital citizenship can take: political participation, civic engagement, and civil disobedience. This paper also suggests that ‘digital citizenship’ is not an antagonistic element against elite model of formal politics but a complementary one that makes democracy work more democratic.
