This study that targets a literary study of folk song which has processed since 2010 investigated what"s their critical mind and what research is carried out on a theoretical basis. Through this, this study found vision of folk studies and research methods that meet the "here and now".
Summarizing the discussions below.
First, Cross-cultural perspective is needed. With the progress of globalization, Work to meet other cultures together will be frequent in the future. According to whether to see the encounter between different cultures as "clash of civilizations" or "cultural exchanges", the perception of glovaliztion can be different. That means not only coloniality should be able to be analyzed in a objective and critical view but also a view of subject accepting a foreign culture and competency of culture translation should be able to be read separately.
Second, the interest of contemporary folk songs with the current life is necessary.
Research on traditional folk songs and the folk song sprouting in the ecological environment of the region will be sustained. This view should be extended to the study of contemporary life and contemporary folk songs. If the folk song research is indifferent to the lives of the people and focuses on the traditional folk songs recorded in the literature of the past, it will gradually lose a standing place.
Perspectives of researchers on folk song is changed according to the times and generation. If someone opens a new way of folk song research in innovative view, Subsequent studies have been led and have enriched. We can know that when new perspective becomes universal, critical mind is posed again.

이 글에서는 2010년 이후에 진행된 민요 연구를 대상으로 이들의 문제의식은 무엇인지, 어떠한 이론적 바탕 위에서 연구가 수행되었는지를 살폈다. 이를 통해 ‘지금-여기’에 부합하는 민요 연구의 시각과 연구방법을 모색하였다. 논의 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다.
첫째 상호문화적 관점과 문화횡단적 시각이 필요하다. 세계화의 진전과 더불어 다른 문화들끼리 만나는 일은 앞으로 한층 더 잦아지고 빈번해지게 될 것이다. 다른 문화들 사이의 만남을 ‘문명의 충돌’로 볼 것인가, 아니면 문화의 교류로 볼 것인가 하는데 따라 세계화의 인식도 달라질 수 있다. 식민성에 대해 객관적이고 비판적인 시각으로 분석해낼 수 있어야 하지만 외래 문화를 수용한 주체의 시각과 문화번역의 역량을 별도로 읽어낼 수 있어야 한다는 의미이다.
둘째 동시대의 민요와 현재의 삶에 대한 관심이 필요하다. 과거부터 전승되어온 전통적인 민요, 그 지역의 생태적 환경 속에서 싹트고 전승된 향토민요에 대한 연구는 앞으로도 지속되어야 한다. 하지만 동시대 민중들의 삶과 동시대의 민요에 대한 연구로 시각이 확장되어야 한다. 민요 연구가 현시대 민중의 삶에 대해 무관심하고 문헌에 기록되어 있는 과거의 민요에만 집중한다면 점점 설자리를 잃게 될 것이다.
민요에 대한 연구자들의 시각은 시대에 따라 변화되고 있고 연구의 이론적 배경도 현재적 시점이 강조되고 있다. 누군가가 참신한 시각으로 민요 연구의 새로운 길을 트면 그 물줄기를 따라 후속 연구들이 이어지고 풍부해지는 양상을 보인다. 처음에는 낯설게 느껴지던 새로운 시각이 보편적인 시각이 되면 또 새로운 문제의식이 제기되는 패턴을 보인다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
