This study is a preliminary work for expanding on the historical research of Kim Kwang-Jin, a Confucian intellectual during the colonial period. First of all, the life and activities of Kim Kwang-Jin were explored briefly. Second, the draft that served as the basis of his collection of literary works and his 『Haeak Munjib』 were analyzed with bibliographic approach. Based on the results, several facts related to his family, life, and activities were revealed. The bibliographic analysis of the draft is very important for understanding his work 『Haeak Munjib』. since the draft for『Haeak Munjib』, which was edited and corrected by the author still remains, his ideas can be explored significantly.
『Haeak Munjib』 by Kim Kwang-Jin shows his intention to edit and correct his draft. There are three types of 『Haeak Munjib』. In this study, the one published in 1985 with the most amount of works and the best correction was analyzed. The book contains 1,112 writings in 26 volumes. The amount is extraordinary, which is beyond comparison during the colonial period. Another feature of the collection is that the author"s key ideas are divided by theme in terms of content. It shows the intense intellectual stress of the intellectuals who lived during the grim colonial period. In particular, the author"s exploration of "Human Nature and Desires" reflects his sharp observation of everyday people during the colonial Chosun era, who had rising desires for capitalism.
Besides 『Haeak Munjib』 , there are lots of writings that are not included in the draft, as well as other data that was not analyzed in this study. Hopefully, they will be introduced through other studies.
