The core logic in colonialist historiography is stasis and heteronomy. The resignation of the journalist Chang Geuk Mun who was nominated for Prime Minister, provides an opportunity to introspectively examine the impact of colonialist historiography. This incident appears to show that journalists and academics in Korea were trapped within the frame of colonialist historiography. Colonialist historiography in Korean journalism should not be considered as transient or a thing of the past because it can influence not only the events of today but the future of Korean society by expanding and reproducing colonialist historiography in quantitative and qualitative ways. Analysis of this process shows that it still provides a mechanism for maintaining and strengthening vested interests of political-economic power, and the knowledge power of journalists and academics in universities. This is the reason why Korean academia must take the lead and open this perception to widespread public discussion. People should be made aware that mainstream Korean journalism is biased by colonialist historiography. If this is not done it will be very difficult to get rid of the entrenched framework of heteronomy in the present and future divided Korea.
