Taboo between Chinese etiquette and western culture share similarities such as taboo to impurity and sacred matter and avoidance to punishment by supernatural forces. However, Chinese etiquette taboos have a stronger sense of ethics and integrity and richer culture features. They play social roles to guide people into integrity, social hierarchy, and proper human relations and prevent promiscuousness and disasters. By thorough study, we can apply ancient standards to modern days and propose manners that both in line with the modern spirit and ancient criteria. It is of great significance as to cultivate the goodness among citizens, promote modern civilization and construct socialist value system.
