In the future, the typical form of tour that sees the sights of famous tourist resorts will change into one that experience a unique life at difference places caused by different culture, history and geography. Besides, tourists` need for tourism will be more diversified, a wider variety of segmented markets will appear, and changed accommodations will be provided as well. A home-stay is capable of offering ample experiences required by the future tourism style, but there has been few systematic studies on that although how to develop it as one of established accommodations has been discussed. The purpose of this study was to define the basic concept of home-stay and its terms used in a confusing way, and to assess earlier studies and reports on home-stay. Moreover, it`s additionally attempted to determine the characteristics of demand for home-stay by referring to statistical data and studies, and to make an experimental survey of outsider tourists in order to suggest some realistic measures of activating home-stay, including (1) the development of both low- and high-price market. (2) the creation of a Korean Home- Stay Association. (3) the development of private houses for tourist home-stay in urban and tourist resort areas, (4) the development of the related Internet homepage, (5) the selection of tourist agency that offers an exclusive service for home-stay reservation. (6) the use of credit card for home-stay rates, and (7) the preparation of differentiated strategy for segmented market. But there were some limits in this study: first, opinions from foreigner tourists from various countries, including those who hadn`t ever visited our country, weren`t gathered because of the lack of on-the-spot survey. Second, more data should have been prepared. Finally, the literature related to accommodations similar to foreign home-stay, such as B&B, wasn`t reviewed fully. An effort to get over the limits and provide more detailed description of the above-mentioned home-stay development measures will be made in future study.
