The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate the effects of loaded and unloaded swimming on response of blood components and antioxidant system of hyperlipidemia rats. Twenty-four male SD rats(6 weeks old) were randomly divided into control group and 2 swimming groups after hyperlipidemia induction for 4 weeks 1% cholesterol diet, and then swimming groups swam for 6 weeks(7days/week) divided into 30 minute unloaded swimming group and 30 minute loaded swimming group by swimming intensity. The loaded swimming group rats among swimming groups swam a lead weight equivalent to 5% of body weight attached to the base of the tail. Analytical items were WBC, RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelet as blood components, and GSH, GRD, xanthine oxidase and MDA as antioxidant enzyme and reactive oxygen. All data were expressed as mean and standard deviation by suing SPSS/PC_+ program, and to evaluate the differences between groups, data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and Duncan multiple range test (α= .05) was performed to test the significant levels of differences between groups. The conclusions obtained from this study were as follows; 1. In WBC, unloaded swimming group and loaded swimming group were significantly higher than control group(P<.001), and in RBC and hemoglobin, control group and loaded swimming group were significantly higher than unloaded swimming group(P<.001). In hematocrit, loaded swimming group and unloaded swimming group were significantly higher than loaded swimming group(P<.01). And in platelet, unloaded swimming group were significantly higher than loaded swimming group and control group(P<.01). 2. IN glutathione(GSH), unloaded swimming group and loaded swimming group were significantly higher than control group(P<.001), and in glutathione reductase(GRD), unloaded swimming group and loaded swimming group were significantly higher than control group(P<.01). 3. In xanthine oxidase(XO), loaded swimming group were significantly lower than control group and unloaded swimming group(P<.001), and in malondialdehyde(MDA), unloaded swimming group were significantly lower than control group and loaded swimming group(P<.01).
