The purpose of this study was to obtain information regarding the cardiopulmonary characteristics in ballet dancers, modern dancers and Korean folk dancers. 27 female dancers(average age-18yr. average career-6yr.) who were 9 ballet dancers, 9 modern dancers, and 9 Korean folk dancers. Each subjects performed gradually increment treadmill exercise test to volitional exhaustion(all-out). They were walked with 80m/min, and jogged with 120m/min for 2 minutes, the workload rate was increased 20m/min, every 2 min, the inclination of treadmill was fixed to 3% grade. Statistical analysis of 6 variables related with maximal aerobic power & physiological capacity data were performed utilizing one-way repeated measures ANOVA. The 95% level of confidence was accepted for significance in all statistical comparison. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The means of maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂ max, VO₂ max/wt) were 1.8ℓ/min, 36.0 ml/kg/min in Group I, 1.9ℓ/min, 35.5ml/kg/min in Group II, 1.71ℓ/min, 32.4ml/kg/min in Group III . 2. The means of maximal heart rate were 199 bpm in Group I , 207.1 bpm in Group II, 199.7 bpm in Group III, and the means of metabolic unit (MET) were 10.2 in Group I, 10.1 in Group II, 9.7 in Group III . 3. The means of all-out time were 11.3 min in Group I , 11.6 min in Group II, 10.0 min, in Group III, and the means of MV were 69.1ℓ/Cnin in Group I, 66.3ℓ/min in Group II, 66.8ℓ/min in Group III. 4. The difference among 3 groups in 6 variable were not statistically significant(p$gt;.05), but, the means of VO₂ max, VO₂ max/wt, MET, all-out time of Korean folk dancers group were lower lower than other groups.
