Report Errors
Lately many service providers have been attempting to provide video contents via the Internet. And some reports in the United States showed that the number of pay TV subscribers was decreasing while the number of online video users was increasing. Based on the niche theory, this study analyzed the competition between online video service and traditional media, such as terrestrial TV, cable TV, IPTV, direct broadcast satellite (DBS), and so on. The results showed that there was a high degree of competition between online video service and some media, such as terrestrial TV, cable TV, IPTV, DBS and games. However, online video service had competitive inferiority compared to these media. In particular, it had extreme competitive inferiority compared to cable TV. This is because users tend to watch the online video service mostly at home, where traditional pay TV, such as cable TV, has had strong competitive superiority.
