The aim of this paper is to shed light on the method of representation and the meaning of an incompetent person in modern korean literature. But what discussed in this paper are only three short stories of modern Korean literature in 1910’s and 1920’s ; Kim, Dong－in’s Potato, Hyun, Sang－yoon’s Molest, and Yang, Geon－sik’s A life of Han.
In the short stories of 1910’s, Hyun, Sang－yoon’s Molest, and Yang, Geon－sik’s A life of Han Incompetence is discussed what is different from poverty.
Kim Dong－in’s short story, Potato is representative of 1920’s literature which covered the correlation of poverty. In modern Korean literature of the 1920’s Incompetence is discussed what is not different from poverty.
In short the time when Incompetence is first discussed what is different from poverty modern Korean literature is in 1920’s.
