The author presents and explains the iron tools which were related with Wiman Joseon in the second century BCE. The iron tools in eastern Liaoning and northwestern Korea during the period from the third century BCE to the first century BCE are classified and explained. These can be classified into five phases in temporal terms and six subareas in spatial terms.
The cast-iron farming and woodcutting tools were distributed from before the early third century BCE with Mingdu currencies in eastern Liaoning and in the northern part of northwestern Korea. In the southern part of northwestern Korea, those tools are supposed to have been distributed from the late third century BCE.
The forged iron tools, including daggers and spears, were distributed from the late third century BCE in eastern Liaoning and the northern part of northwestern Korea, but in the southern part of northwestern Korea from the early second century BCE. From the early first century BCE almost all iron tools were made and used in all regions. But in the southern part of northwestern Korea, traditional bronze tools were made and supplied together with iron tool assemblages until the early first century BCE.
Therefore, Wiman Joseon, which was located in eastern Liaoning or in northwestern Korea, is supposed to have used and made all types of iron tools, including weapons in different patterns.
There are many opinions regarding where Wiman Joseon was located, from the Liaoning region to present-day North Korea. Some insist that Wiman Joseon was located in northwestern Korea, but others insist that eastern Liaoning was the center of that area.
According to the former opinion, Wiman Joseon had simple patterns of iron tools assemblages. But according to the latter opinion, Wiman Joseon had several patterns of iron tool assemblages, which means a complex state society.
