The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of participation motivation on self-esteem and psychological wellbeing and then to help the development on the efficient management of the school sports club. To achieve this, 208 muddle school students in Gyeongju participated in the survey, and exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression were used through PASW SPSS 18.0. The results are as following.
Firstly, in terms of the individual characteristics, there are significant differences in the participation motivation according to the sex distinction, sports types, family background, and the participation period. In terms of the self ?esteem, there are significant differences in the negative self-esteem according to the participation period. There are also significant differences in the psychological wellbeing according to the sex distinction, sports types, and the participation period. Secondly, in terms of the positive self-esteem, the skill development and the achievement factors of the participation motivation had positive impacts on the positive self-esteem and the negative self-esteem. Lastly, in terms of the psychological wellbeing, the skill development and the achievement factors of the participation motivation had positive impacts on the competence, the hedonic pleasure, the sense of self-realization, and the immersion. The society factors of the participation motivation had impacts on the hedonic pleasure and the sense of self-realization. The joy factors of the participation motivation had impacts on the hedonic pleasure, the sense of self-realization, and the immersion.
