The purpose of this study was to develope and validate the Career Guidance Behavior Scale for mothers with high school aged children(CGBS-MHC). The reason why mothers with high school age students were selected was that the roles of mothers had been considered as one of critical factors affecting children’s career choice. The research questions in this study were as follows: (1) What are the important factors which affect mothers’ career guidance behaviors for their children? (2) What are the reliability and validity of the scale. The CGBS-MHC was developed through the following steps: literature review, open-ended question survey, pilot study, pre-test survey, and validation of the scale. A total of 139 open-ended questionnaires asking career guidance behaviors were collected from mothers with high school children all over the Korea. Some of these items were deleted and corrected based on face validity and content validity, so that 136 items were obtained for a pilot study. A pre-test was conducted to examine the clarity of the items, ease of response, and response time with 22 volunteers. At the result, 2 factors, and 9 sub-factors, and 41 item were derived, Nine sub-factors were as follows: psychological support, guidance on overcoming career decision difficulty, career advice initiated by parents, guidance on self exploration, and guidance on self-directed career exploration, network connection, guidance on career information exploration, learning guidance, and pursuing professional help. The CGBS-MHC was significantly related to parents self-efficacy and parents career guidance self-efficacy, confirming criterion-related validity. Finally, limitations, future research, implications of this study were discussed.
