The purposes of this study were to investigate how microteaching experience affected the teaching efficacy of preservice early childhood teachers and to analyze their reflective thinking which the teachers had kept after watching the video recordings of their own teaching. Participants were seven preservice early childhood teachers who were attending H university in Gyeonggi. An inventory on teaching efficacy had been administered to the participants before and after their microteaching and reflective journals had been kept by them while self-monitoring the video recordings of their teaching. Collected data were analyzed in quantitative and qualitative ways. Quantitative analyses revealed that the microteaching experience significantly increased the teachers’ personal teaching efficacy. Qualitative analyses on reflective journals also showed that the process of self-monitoring and reflecting the video recordings of their teaching help them diagnose strength and weakness of their teaching behaviors and build strong confidence to become competent teachers by undergoing improvements. This study was of significance in that it confirmed the usefulness of micoteaching experience in increasing preservice early childhood teachers’ teaching efficacy which has an important impact on teaching and learning as well as in providing the opportunities of self-reflection which is needed to improve teaching expertise.
