The Fehmarn Belt region consists of Southern Denmark and Northern Germany in the European Union(EU). The Fehmarn Belt Link consists of an immersed tube tunnel project with associated landside works between Lolland in Denmark and Fehmarn in Germany. The preferred design is a cable-style bridge. An immersed tunnel is considered as a technical alternative. Also, The link will replace energy consuming ferries and cut the travel time between Hamburg and Copenhagen by one hour. The Fehmarn Belt region is slated to be the largest infrastructure project in Europe which has qualified as a priority project under the EU"s TEN-T(Trans-European Transport Networks). In recent years, the Fehmarn Belt region is a transnational region in Europe, centred on the cities of Copenhagen, Lubeck and Hamburg. Along with Oresund region, the Fehmarn Belt region will connect the missing link in the central European corridor. As the importance of national borders continues to decline in the new borderless Europe, the Fehmarn Belt region is an important hub for economic activity and example of an transnational region that reflects the new rise of cross-border and interregional sea port cities networks in the European Union. The main result of this study was that the features of Fehmarn Belt region are mainly determined by many factors in cross-border activity, such as political negotiation, economic and cultural background. So, this study provides some useful implications for formation and development of cross-border network in Northeast Asia.
