The purpose of this article was to test the effect of useful policy operated and employee satisfaction on self directed behavior in the family restaurant setting. Even though there is just a few consensus regarding the positive relationship among the useful policy, employee satisfaction and self directed behavior. Yet still unclear results exist regarding this relationship. Thus, the present article attempts to clarify these fuzzy relationships. Specifically, this article aims to enhance understanding of the influence of useful policy and employee satisfaction on self directed behavior at a family style restaurant setting. Based on the literature review, it was theorized that useful policy operated makes employee satisfaction and they are the key causal determinants of self directed behavior in this study. Based on theoretical backgrounds, 2 hypotheses were derived, t test and regression analysis were proposed. The research model was tested using the empirical data collected from 476 employees in a few different name of family style restaurant in Seoul. The findings suggest that useful policy and employee satisfaction are significant determinant of self directed behavior. Further, the article results indicate that employee satisfaction is also an important predictor of self directed behaviors. Finally, based on these findings, managerial implications for restaurant managers are discussed.
