T There is a need for an infant educational institution to provide infant physical education program offering adequate stimulus and experience for healthy motor development during infancy. As such, this study intends to obtain baseline data on which to establish the improvement of infant physical education program as well as the direction of efficient infant physical education toward the motor development for infants.
In order to achieve such purpose, this study targeted 81 infants of age between 3 and 7 of S infant educational institution located in Seoul as subjects. As for gender breakdown, 34 male infants and 47 female infants have been selected to proceed with this study.
The following tools have been selected for measuring the motor development: infant motor ability standards suggested by Payne & Isaacs (2008) and 8 items including shifting motor ability (running, jumping, hopping, skipping) and object manipulation ability (throwing, receiving, kicking, hitting).
he result of this study found out that both male and female Korean infants fell short of Payne & Isaccs (2008) in terms of shifting motor ability and object manipulation ability. In general, this is considered to be the result of a lack of promotion of infant physical education program. It is recommended that a systematic program be developed for improving the baseline motor ability for implementation into places of infant education.
