This study was to investigate elementary schoolers" interest on their Korean language textbook. Fourth elementary schoolers in Daegu City were participated in the study and Checklist for Interest on Korean Language Textbook(CIKLT) was used for the data collection.
Results from the study documented that elementary schoolers were not much interested in expository writings in the textbook. Their average score of interest was 2.86 in the 5-point scale. However they are interested in narrative writings in the textbook. Their average score of interest was 3.36 in the scale. Qualitative data showed that elementary schoolers dislike expository writings because they are hard to understand and boring. However they like narrative writings because they are interesting and they identify with some characters in the stories. Implications from this study may seem clear. An effort to provide more interesting textbook to elementary students may increase their motivation to read.
