Native national ritual is closely related to the legitimacy of native power, so that colonial government reestablishes their national ritual in order to destroy native power and establish new cosmetic order of colonial government. And reestablished national ritual implies new cosmetic order (that is, class order); therefore, rites of state shinto, rites of national public Japanese shinto shrine(官國幣社以下祭祀令) which played the role as national rituals of the Japanese Government General of Korea, signifies the emperor of Japan-centered new cosmetic order in colonized Joseon. Like this, because the legitimacy of Japanese colonial government was established by the emperor of Japan-centered new cosmetic order through reestablishment of national rituals, studying the contents of rites of state shinto might be important for understanding ruling ideology of Japanese colonial government. Nevertheless, previous researches related to rites of Japanese shinto shrine in Korea have only been focused on rejection of shrine worship in christian organizations.
Therefore, the purpose of this paper is not to study shrine worship as a mean for becoming Japanese but to identify the reorganization of colonial class order, the process establishing the legitimacy of colonial government and further religious colonization policy in the early of Japanese colonial period through studying the research subject, rites of Keijyo Japanese shinto shrine which performed national rituals of Japanese colonial government from 1915 to 1925. Specifically, this paper classifies the rites of Keijyo Japanese shinto shrine into periodical rites and temporary rites and then will examine colonial characteristics of rites of state shinto that was applied to Joseon, comparing rites of state shinto in early Meiji regime with those of Keijyo shinto shrine. As research methods, this study will examine previous researches and 『Daily News』, which was published from August 1910 to Korean independence in 1945 and reported the contents of Keijyo shinto shrine`s ritual specifically, in order to identify the concrete contents of Keijyo shinto shrine`s ritual during the Japanese colonial period. Finally, this paper will be important in understanding the meaning of demand of shrines worship and it`s symbolic violence in the Japanese colonial period as delineating rites and gods of state shinto in colonized Joseon.
