The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of motivation to participate in school sports clubs on flow experience and exercise adherence among middle and high school students. The authors conducted a survey for 450 middle and high school students in Gyeonggi-do in March 2013, and 410 questionnaires except for 40 with insincere answers were used as the final effective samples. According to the results of this study, First, there were significant differences in the effects of participation motivation on both cognitive and behavioral involvement of flow experience. While external display, technique development, pleasure, and achievement had positive impacts on cognitive involvement, no motivation had negative impacts on it. While external display, technique development, and pleasure had positive effects on behavioral involvement, no motivation had negative effects on it. Second, there were significant differences in the influence of participation motivation on proneness, possibility, and reinforcement of exercise adherence. While pleasure, technique development, external display, and health and physical strength had positive impacts on proneness, no motivation had negative impacts on it. While external display, health and physical strength, and technique development had positive influences on possibility, no motivation had negative influences on it. Health and physical strength, pleasure, achievement, and external display had positive effects on reinforcement. Third, there were significant differences in the effects of f10w experiences on all the sub factors of exercise adherence, namely proneness, possibility, and reinforcement with positive effects among the sub factors of exercise adherence.
