This study aims to find intergenerational spillover effects of individuals’ caring commitment for elderly parents. The research is based on a survey conducted on 209 middle-aged couples and their offsprings at college, residing in Daegu or GyeongBuk Province. The findings of this study are as follows. ⑴ Both middle aged parents and their offsprings at college have a positive direct effect of parental dedication received during childhood on their intimacy toward their each parents. ⑵ The parental dedication during childhood perceived by the middle aged couples has a positive effect on their caring commitment for their elderly parents via the full mediator of the intimacy between the middle couples and their elderly parents. ⑶ The parental dedication perceived by the said offsprings at college has a positive effect on their caring commitment for their parents later via the partial mediator of the intimacy between the said offsprings and their parents at middle age. ⑷ We find the intergenerational effect of parental dedication but failed to find the intergenerational effect of caring commitment for their elderly parents.
