This article intensively discusses the origins of neorealism in the event of Kenneth N. Waltz’s passing in 2013. Coverging Waltz’s publications from 1959 to 1979, the article purports to refect upon the traces as to why Waltz came to focus on the importance of the level 3 factors, namely structural attributes, in explaining international politics. The article will then speak to how neorealism has been received in by the community of Interntional Relations in South Korea and why Korean scholars have accommodated the premeses of neorealism. The article also critiques the weakness of neorealism in terms of its explanatory efficacies in Northeast Asia’s Interntional Relations. Lastly, the article dissuceses how neorealism could become more sustainable as a research program in Korea.
