The reason we need to pay special attention to the fathers in The Brothers Karamazov is that they become the direct or indirect targets of the three major deaths described in this work. The fact that the novel The Brothers Karamazov begins with the story of the disgusting ‘father warring with the son" and ends with that of the ‘father caring for the dying son" with utmost love and devotion serves as a device emphasizing the role of the theme of fathers.
The three deaths in The Brother Karamazov become an artistic picture of the images of fathers and sons, portrayed on the basis of the ideas of N.F. Fyodorov. The final part of the main body ? the long dispute between the prosecutor and the lawyer ? reflects the ideas of Fyodorov about fathers and sons, while the subsequent epilogue ? the death of Ilyusha and the expected rebirth of his father Snegiryov ? portrays the realization of his thoughts regarding the need for humanity to unite as a brother, a family, and a nation
through the revival of the ancestors.
In particular, the regeneration of Snegiryov, who was considered a model of loathsome fathers like Fyodor Pavlovich, is depicted not as an allegory but a realistic reflection of the philosophy of Fyodorov, who insisted on the revival of fathers, and it becomes, therefore, an example that the theme of fathers in The Brothers Karamazov is constructed on the solid philosophical basis of Fyodorov.
