Report Errors
Since the notion of sustainable development has given impacts on different academic disciplines such as humanities, social science, natural science and engineering, the way of integrating the concept of sustainability into a variety of academic disciplines becomes very complex and multi-faceted. Recently, the sustainability science is emerged as a new discipline to embrace sustainability. This paper posits sustainability science in the North and the South as well as in basic and applied research. As key research themes, scientific understanding on society-eco system, goals and objectives of sustainability, and sustainability implementing strategy, are addressed for future directions. In addition, problem-solving and critical theory perspectives are applied to develop methodologies and approaches of sustainability science. Finally, eight academic disciplines and areas of sustainability science are addressed.
