This study was aimed to find directions of using adequate picture books as ecophilosophy educational materials. To achieve this goal, first, theoretical examination was conducted for drawing available criteria of analysis and selecting picture books. Second, the selected picture books were analyzed in contents analysis. Through theoretical examination and analysis of picture books analysis, this study derived the following findings.
First, based on theoretical examination, this study proposes the criteria of analysis in selecting picture books. The criteria can be categorized into literature, ecophilosophical, and educational domains. Second, all of the twelve(12) books 1) have the components that could arouse students" interests sufficiently and give new ways of looking at a problem, 2) have various subjects and themes about ecophilosophical problems, and 3) show diverse interactions between words and pictures. Third, some themes for learning emerged through this study: interdependence, critical thinking of anthropocentrism, ecological crisis, symbiosis between human and non-human beings. This study also suggests directions of using picture books for ecophilosophy education.
