A seated Ksitigarbha in the Bogwangsa, Sokcho, Gangwon-do was enshrined in 1654 and known to be restored in 1740.
The opened votive textile pieces from a wooden sculpture of the seated Ksitigarbha has studied aiming to identify whether it was originally stored in mid-17C. or being refilled during restoration of the seated Ksitigarbha, mid-18C. Comparative study was applied for conforming the stored year of opened votive textile with a control group, a chronically known range of excavated satin damask
Various votive textiles are found from inside of the seated Kstigabha. It includes an unopened storage box (후령통) which is covered with the yellow silk tabby and some pieces of textiles, such as the dragon pattern satin with supplementary gold wefts, the four season flowers pattern of satin damask, as well as the green and blue silk threads. The dedicative inscription is found too.
By the comparative study with chronically known excavated costumes, opened pieces of votive textiles from the seated Kstigabha are identified to be filled in 1654, thereby unopened votive box assumes to be filled while restoration in 1974. Also due to the color of votive textiles from the seated Kstigabha remains clear, it would be expected being a useful material to identify the chronical record of 17C’s satin damask.
