This study aims to investigate Korean college students’ grammaticality judgements and perceptions of semantic properties of English middle verb constructions. Fifty-nine advanced level students at two different universities whose majors were English-related participated in this study. They were asked to judge the grammaticality of twenty-two sentences and correct the sentences if they did not sound right. The data analysis revealed that few students judge the grammaticality of the sentences correctly. They understood the implicit subject in middle verb construction but they perceived that the understood subject appears in the form of ‘by-NP’ in passive construction. This study also showed that most students have little knowledge of stativity and adverb modification properties of middle verb constructions. Furthermore, most students had strong tendency to overpassivize the middle verb form in the error correction task. Several pedagogical implications of this study are also addressed.
