The purpose of this paper is to investigate the locality of Gaesung(開城) in the Joseon(朝鮮) dynasty period. The tangible cultural asset and intangible memory of old capital disappeared after the fall of Goryeo(高麗) dynasty period. At that time intellectuals and merchants in Gaesung tried to reveal them. Therethrough the personal representation came into the picture from the scene of loyal subject, scholar, good writer, master calligrapher and commerce.
From Joseon dynasty period to the present, during six hundred years, the cultural and economic localities(identity, placeness) of Gaesung have become highly strong. Then the intellectuals and merchants in Gaesung who invigorated these things had much pride in their being Gaesung people. Finally their desire for memorizing Gaesung was possessive local-characteristic, and it was much more stronger than that of any other region.
