A national museum should be an easily accessible place where one can experience and learn about history, undistorted and faithfully represented .Exhibits in a museum of history must therefore, be subjected to a process of thorough review and careful selection before being displayed. Exhibition Hall 1 of the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History is replete with distortions and errors which can hardly be overlooked as simple mistakes. Modern and contemporary history is distorted with a nationalistic view of history under the guise of the ‘Republic of Korea’. History has been arbitrarily divided into periods that ignore the accepted views of academic research. The museum also excludes adequate representation of the displacement of people in Korea during times of conflict. At the museum was opened in a hurry because of political experiences, there are many incorrect descriptions of relics with some artifacts unsuitable for display. These problems pose question about fundamental function of the museum as a museum of history Errors must urgently be corrected by conducting professional research so as to accommodate the criticism and advice from academia and civil society.
