This study purposed to extract the characteristics of spatial design in each country of Southeast Asia, and to identify differences among them through comprehensive analysis. Accordingly, this study was conducted through reviewing various literatures on spatial design in Southeast Asia. Its results are expected to be used as reference materials in designing spaces related to Southeast Asia and for constructors planning to run their business in Southeast Asia. The results of this study are as follows. First, in terms of architectural characteristics, temples and palaces showed the influence of Indian architecture such as stupas and overlapping roofs, but they adapted such elements to their own culture. Native housings were mostly of elevated type but their height was different according to area and used materials were also different among the countries. Colonial housings showed a variety of mixtures of Western-style structure and each country’s traditions. Second, in terms of the characteristics of indoor space, temples and palaces were different among the countries. Native housings were not much difference among the countries, and Colonial housings showed characteristics similar to those observed in architecture. Third, the characteristics of decorations were also different among the countries. In decorations, Myanmar used lacquer, Thailand silk fabric, Cambodia sculptures, Laos gold-plated patterns, and Vietnam dragon patterns.
