After getting to know Gestalt Therapy, this researcher, who had tackled the contemporary reinterpretation of Wang Yang-ming philosophy as a research theme for several years, had an impression that ‘awareness’, the keyword of Gestalt Therapy, would be the best word that can express most clearly ‘Liang-chih(良知)’, the nebulous core concept of Wang’s philosophy, in the contemporary context.
Gestalt Therapy sees, although being a very modern therapy, individuals from an interrelated organism point of view, not as atom, and takes the healing powers of human as innate and inborn, not as learned and studied, and the power naturally given to organism. The therapy derives self-healing and growth through the awareness and consciousness of one’s own inner power, having very similar position to the healing philosophy of Wang. For above reasons, this researcher, who was very interested in reinterpreting Wang’s philosophy contemporarily then using for philosophy education and philosophy consultation, tried to study Wang’s philosophy and the therapy comparatively.
