The Annotated Korean Translation of Bankye’s Essays is published from 1962 to 1968 by The Research and Translation Center for Classics of Chungnam National University, which was created in 1958, as four books. Here, the translator of the book was known as Han, Jang-kyeong.
But recently there was an argument about the translator which caused a controversy. The assistant translator of the fourth book, Kwon, Yong-won, stated that he alone did all the translation. However, this statement is different from the truth. It can be rebutted by another participant of the translation of Bankye’s Essays, Cho, Jong-yob’s testimony. Also, it can be found that the statement is false by Chungdae Sinmun which described more in details about the process of the translation of Bankye’s Essays.
From this controversy it can be said that The Annotated Korean Translation of Bankye’s Essays is not solely translated and annotated by Han, Jang-kyeong but is the product of collaboration of many people such as Chong, Suk-jin, Cho, Jong-yob, Kim, Ik-hyaun, Kwon, Yong-won. Also, we can understand that their participation was different depending on periods of translation.
