The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean textbook for children from multi-cultural families and provide direction of Korean textbook development. For this study, the author made 4 criteria of analysis through analyzing the purposes of korean education for children from multi-cultural families and advanced researches. The 4 criteria of analysis include learner-centered, improvement of communicative competence, improvement of CALP(Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency), reflection of intercultural perspective. This study analyzed 2007, 2009, 2012 korean textbooks published from Seoul office of education.
The ana1ysis shows that 2007, 2009 korean textbooks focus on introducing the vocabulary with school life and school regulations. However, 2012 korean textbook focuses on the improvement of communicative competence and considers the characteristic of learners and tries to reflect intercultural perspective. It is possible to know that Korean textbook for children from multi-cultural families have progressed considering communicative competence. The problem is that there are no textbooks which pay attention to CALP seriously.
Through the analysis, it is necessary to consider very carefully the following points to develope Korean textbooks. Firstly, we have to more concern learners to know what kind of situation they often meet and what kind of practice they like. And Korean textbook includes various school life and daily life considering learners who are students. Secondly, we have to find out proper practices to improve communicative competence and focus more on the reading and writing. Lastly, In the textbook, we have to reflect CALP and intercultural perspective actively.
