This essay aims to survey the issue of mind and body in the Christian tradition focused on the Christian cannon. To deal with the issue properly, it should be covered three main parts: the cannonical tradition, including The Hebrew Bible and The New Testament; classical theology, represented by those theologies of Augustine and Aquinas under the influence of Greek thoughts; and contemporary theological discourses that reflect recent achievements of natural sciences. There are some words, which indicate mind and body in The Hebrew Bible and The New Testament: leb, lebab, basar, nous, soma, sarx and so on. However, there is no word which can be translated directly into Korean word ‘mon’ and ‘maeum’. In the Christian cannon, mind and body were not regard as separated ones. They do not accept two different substance such as mind and body. For them, a human being is a psychosomatic unity and a bio-physical-spiritual unity. The relationship between mind and body is not parallel but undivided. Body is an embodied mind or/and mind is emergent from body.
