The 〈Sohyeonseongrok〉and 〈Yuhyogongseonhangrok〉 series have a shared plot in which a story of ethical man-type male characters faithfully abiding by the Confucian principles is told in the prequel followed by a sequel describing a story of hero-type male characters seeking their own desire and show a typical personality of gentlemen and heroes.
In the meantime, these two series describe problems of both gentleman-type and hero-type male characters sufferings of female characters in Marriage story, and while the 〈Sohyeonseongrok〉 take a male-centered perspective, the 〈Yuhyogongseonhangrok〉 series hold a female-centered perspective.
These differences in the narrative perspectives indicate that these two series reflect a different viewpoint of readers, and such dichotomy of readers is also observed in the 〈Hyeonmongssangryonggi〉 and 〈Seonghyeongongsukyeolgi〉 series, a full-length novel written in Korean that belongs to the same Samdaerok category.
