A classic is a clear mirror that reflects the world, and was a brilliant lantern shining in th center of the world. The process that sincere readers seek the truth reading classics according to the list of canon is the landscape of the era with a living authority of books. However, the romantic landscape established with authoritative classics and obedient readers in changing rapidly.
With the progress of the paradigmatic shift to the knowledge-based society, classics are communicated on the process of production and consumption as major cultural contents that make OSMU (one source multi use) possible.
The expericence of the networking society where all separated things are connected is being realized in earnest also in a way that books and readers meet and communicate.
For example, recent TV dramas reveal a lot of aspects that quote classics in a fragmented way regardless of their contents. Only parts of classics are quoted or placed into a new context regardless of their plots. In this process, a drama of fiction makes the meaning of the book of reality reinterpreted and the drama is reinterpreted based on the contents of the book of reality. Although the traditional authority of classics has gone, it is still competing with visual media by conveying the meaning of humanity, emotion, truth and so on.
Although current readers are not dependent upon the traditional authority of classics, they still aspire toward classical culture and refinement internally. However, they want to read a classic in the context as it is "now" and "here" since they are faithful to a realistic desire. In addition, they read books moving freely between printed media and other medial.
Reading education should mediate in the process that classics are newly recontextualized as the books of "now" and "here" by considering the tendency of such readers.
